Rules
 

CANADIAN AIRLINES SOFTBALL RULES

 

 

ASA Rules will apply with the following modifications:

 

1)             ELIGIBILITY:  These tournaments are designed to bring Airline people together in a social and competitive yet friendly spirit, therefore, the following conditions will constitute team eligibility.

A)   Each Team must have a minimum of (5) Airline Employee’s.

B)   To constitute a TEAM in the tournament, a team must have no more than 15 and no less than 9 players.

 

2)             ROSTER/WAIVER:  Each player must sign a Roster/Waiver.  The Roster/Waiver must be submitted prior  to the start of each teams first game.  Once handed in, no changes will be permitted.  No player may be on the roster of more than one team.

 

3)             TIME LIMIT:  Game time limit of (1hr 10min) or 7 innings, whichever comes first.  Games will end in a tie at the end of  regulation time, or 7 innings.

 

4)             MERCY RULE:  10 runs any  time after 5 innings;  4 ½ innings if the home team is leading.

 

5)             7 run rule will be in effect, except for the final inning of the game.  Exception;  If a team is trailing by more than 7 runs, that team may score more than 7 runs but only enough to tie the game. 

 

6)             FORFEIT / DEFAULT:   Score of game is 7-0.

 

7)             BALLS AND STRIKES:  There is a minimum 6’ and maximum 12’ arc permitted.  A MAT will be used behind home plate to call balls and strikes.  Each batter will start with a 1-ball and 1-strike count.

 

8)             SAFE LINE:  All base runners attempting to reach home plate must do so by touching the ground in foul territory on or beyond the SAFE LINE.  Sliding into home is NOT allowed.  Force out ONLY at home plate.

Effect:  Base runners are out if they touch home plate whether or not a play is being made.  A base runner is not out

                if the plate is touched in an attempt to avoid a collision.

 

9)             BATTING ORDER:  Each team may bat their entire roster, PROVIDED, a team does not bat more than 2-males consecutively in the batting order.

                Effect: 3rd male to come to bat will become an automatic out for the remainder of the game.

 

                                                                                                                                                               

10)           DEFENSIVE LINE-UP:   Each team will be permitted to field a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 9 players on defense of which there may be a maximum of 6 male players.

 Examples are as follows:

                                A)   6-male & 4-female

                                B)   5-male & 5-female

                                C)   5-male & 4-female         

                                D)   4-male & 5-female        

E)   6-male & 3-female         

F)   4-male & 6-female

 

11)           COURTESY RUNNER:  A team may use maximum of (3) courtesy runners per game.  Male for male and female for female.  Any player in the line-up may be used.

 

12)           BASE ON BALLS (MALE):  If a male is walked (intentional or not) and a female follows in the batting order, HE will be awarded 1st and 2nd base.

 

13)           EJECTION'S:  Any player ejected from a game may be suspended for the remainder of the tournament.

 

14)           TEAM SUSPENSIONS:  The tournament committee may disqualify any team (without compensation and put in last place for that division) from the tournament for:

A)   Using an illegal player; cheating; attempting fraud; NSF checks or any other flagrant act’s that make a mockery of the game and /or tournament.

B)   Abuse (verbal or otherwise) to umpires; conveners; organizers or executive members of the tournament, the organizing committee, USSSA personnel or the tournament sponsor’s.

 

15)           RAIN OUTS:  The tournament Directors reserve the right to alter the tournament format in case of rain.

 

16)           Each Captain must sign the official LINE-UP card.  Once this card has been handed in by the umpires, the score of the game will be final as entered on the line-up card.  Each Captain should confirm the correct score of the game before signing the card.

 

                ALL TEAMS SHOULD CONFIRM THE RULES WITH THE UMPIRES AND OPPONENTS BEFORE EACH GAME.  PLEASE EXPLAIN ALL RULES TO YOUR TEAM PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE TOURNAMENT.  ONLY THE CAPTAIN OF EACH TEAM WILL BE ABLE TO CONTEST THE RULES WITH THE UMPIRES OR TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS.
